Email from Aerogrow about Romaine Lettuce
As you may have been following, but our Romaine lettuce seed kit has not been performing or looking very well over the last 2 weeks.  So, I sent off an email to customer service at Aerogrow yesterday and this is the message that I got back from Lynne at Aerogrow customer service.

Hello Sean,

Thank you for your email. I’m sorry the Romaine Lettuce seed kit is not growing as expected. It sounds as if you’ve covered all the troubleshooting. There could have been a residue left after cleaning the garden from a previous planting but since you haven’t seen any mold or fungus, that’s probably not the problem. I’m wondering what kind of water you are using. We recommend using distilled water (not spring water) whenever you have poor growth with a seed kit. That way you know there’s nothing in the water preventing the nutrients from working. Grow bulbs should be replaced every six months. They begin to stop producing full spectrum light around six months and plants suffer. Try changing the water to distilled and let me know how the lettuce is doing in a couple of weeks.

So after receiving this email, what I will plan to do this evening is to switch out the water that is currently in the reservoir.  Then I will fill the reservoir with distilled water and add two nutrient tablets, and see what happens over the next week or so.
