I don't know about you, but every time I watch the news lately, I throw overpriced vegetables from the grocery store into the trash, due to the possibility of getting seriously ill. I have no idea what happens to the vegetables at the farms, on the way from the farms, or in the grocery store before I shell out my hard earned cash; but I do know that I do not have much faith in putting store bought veggies on the table for my family to consume. This is one the many reasons that I have chosen to regress to the old fashioned method of "reaping your own harvest" and growing our vegetables at home! Did you know that the symptoms of salmonella include stomach cramps, diarrhea, and fever that can last up to 7 days? I'll take the few extra minutes to grow the vegetables at home to avoid missing work, missing daylight, and to avoid leaving this world with the above mentioned symptoms accompanying me on the way to the morgue. So as food for thought, bad pun, I have chosen to grow a portion of the main veggies we consume on a regular basis, salads w/ tomatoes and sweet bell peppers as a snack, in an Aerogarden system. I have a sincere concern for the health of my family and other families as well, that is the reason I hope everyone can utilize some appliance or method to safeguard their families from those things that can harm us in our everyday lives; we already have enough to worry about! |

In 2006 it was e. coli in spinach, now in 2008 it is the possibility of salmonella in the tomatoes and/or possibly other vegetables. Those two well known news headlines probably do not include those of us that thought we just had a touch of the flu and did not report it to an official agency.
